Loudoun Homeless Shelter Dinner Ministry

The Mt. Zion - Willisville Chapel UMC Cooperative Parish offers monthly support to those in need at the Loudoun Emergency Homeless Shelter on the first Monday of the month. The residents of the Homeless Shelter are at various stages of life. There are mothers with small children, as well as elderly individuals who may need help with carrying their dinner plate.

The shelter has a full-service kitchen, including two ovens and various equipment for our use. Occasionally, it may be necessary to clean the kitchen before beginning our preparations.

We start dinner set up at 5 p.m. and we serve dinner at 6 p.m. The Loudoun Homeless Services Center is located at 19520 Meadowview Court, Leesburg, VA 20175. If you are interested in volunteering for the dinner service, please complete the Mt. Zion UMC -  Leesburg's  Contact Form online.

Mt. Zion Community Cemetery

The Mt. Zion Community Cemetery is managed by the Mt. Zion Community Cemetery Committee. The Committee includes members from the three local churches; Mt. Zion UMC - Leesburg, First Mt. Olive Baptist Church, and Providence Baptist Church, as well as volunteers from the community. The Committee is responsible for hiring a mowing service to maintain the grounds, which includes mowing, trimming around the headstones, and removing debris. The Committee sells graves and columbarium niches and maintains an electronic grid of the entire Cemetery. In addition, the Committee coordinates with the funeral homes on the digging of graves and the subsequent burials. Flags are placed on the graves of the 59 military veterans on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and Christmas wreaths are placed during the Christmas season.

The Old Stone Church Foundation

The Old Stone Church Foundation is a non-profit corporation responsible for the preservation and interpretation of the Old Stone Church. The church first convened in 1766, and included white and black attendees, slave and free. While the church building is no longer there, several headstones of former members remain, as well as information markers which detail the church's history. An 1850 court ruling caused a physical split in the Old Stone Church's membership, resulting in the blacks receiving a burial ground of their own, which is the site of the Mt. Zion Community Cemetery. The Foundation meets quarterly at Mt. Zion UMC - Leesburg.
